Mitchell Moore was awarded the 2019 Prevention Specialist of the Year by the Texas Association of Addiction Professionals. (Acceptance speech below)
I am thrilled to learn of your most-deserved award as Texas Prevention Specialist of the Year. No one could be more deserving. You should write a book if you haven’t already. The lives you’ve touched could form a line from Iraan to Midland. My most sincere congratulations, Beverly Barron
I was very excited to be in San Antonio yesterday, to watch my friend Mitchell Moore receive the Prevention Professional of the Year award, from the Texas Association of Addiction Professionals. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing and working with Mitch for almost 30 years now. He is truly deserving of this honor. He does not just teach prevention, he lives it, works it, and is a model for those in our field and those who wish to be in our field. Brent Blackburn

Acceptance Speech
Invest in people, it’s the greatest investment you can make. I am grateful to accept this award but no one gets here by themselves.
Many people invested in me along my journey. In the early 80’s Beverly Barron and Stephanie Haynes paid for and sent me to conferences like this. Michelle Savage and Kerry Faudree taught me how to be a better counselor. Julie Stevens and Robert Landry expanded my knowledge of prevention. Bruce Cooper, Constance Roberts and Frank Janousek taught me how to love people where they are at. Brent Blackburn and Ruby Moseley taught me how to serve others and partner with me in prevention today. My beautiful wife shows me daily how to be gentle and considerate of people.
Many people have invested in me along my journey and I acknowledge and thank God, who designed me for this very purpose and has brought me to this place.
It is a profound time in life when your passion and purpose find a place. I am grateful that my place is among you, the healers.
What a rare moment in time, a moment that will never be again. We place value on things that are rare like gold or diamonds. We say they are worth a lot because they are rare. Have you considered how rare you are? Since this world started spinning, there has never been, nor will there ever be- YOU. That makes you priceless. You are rarer than gold, more valuable than diamonds. Oh, there may be people who look like you or talk like you, but they do not see the world through your eyes or speak your words.
Others may have hands and fingers, but they do not have your touch. You are as unique as your fingerprints, you are rare…you are valuable…more valuable than you know.
Now, I do not know why you were born here, at this time and place. I do not know what your purpose is, that is for you to discover. I do believe that you were born on purpose and for a purpose, and that somewhere, someone is waiting what you uniquely have to give.
For centuries ships have been carrying valuable cargo through treacherous seas to people waiting on distant shores. Now ships in harbor are safe, but that’s not what ships are built for. Today I am going to encourage you to get out of your safe comfort zone, keep sailing across those rough seas because someone is desperately waiting for the unique rare gift that only you can deliver.
I thank you for being you and doing what you do. Please keep investing in people, it’s the best investment you can make.
